Nordic style mistletoe

I am a lover of simple Christmas decorations. Elements from nature are close to my heart and I think they look great as decorations too. Nature has to offer lovely shades of greens and browns which look great throughout the year.

Mistletoe itself is not a very nordic thing but I wanted to make a nordic version of it. Years back I saw a bunch of forest blueberry stems hanging above a door and I thought it was clever. Suddenly when I was having a little photoshoot out in our backyard I remembered how lovely the hanging blueberry stems were.

In between the photoshoot, I decided to pick a couple of branches to decorate our doorway. It’s been snowing the last few days so a beautiful white snow blanket was covering them. Their green stems looked very pretty against the snow.

I tied the branches together with a velvet ribbon. It was a leftover ribbon from last Christmas, the perfect length for this purpose. I hung the bouquet above the door. We didn’t have a hook there so I used transparent tape. The branches aren’t very heavy so the tape is enough to hold them.

The great thing about the forest blueberry stems is that there are no leaves or needles that dry and shed all over the place. The branches dry out beautifully and don’t mind about Joel who’s head always touches them when he walks by. Note to self: place the mistletoe a bit higher next time :)
